Winterizing your home is recommended to be completed before the first deep freeze of the season. Generally, this means early to mid-October. Often then, not once you start to see the first Halloween decorations in your neighborhood, you’ll know it’s time to get to work. There are many ways to prepare your home for the winter season, so at Westerville Air Conditioning & Heating, we decided to provide some tips and tricks to get you started.

  • Disconnect Garden Hoses- This is another one that isn’t so obvious to some homeowners. When you leave your hose connected, it can trap water inside. Other components, such as your pipes, can burst if this happens.
  • Caulk Windows and Doors- Cold air can easily pass through your window and doors. That’s why our experts suggest caulking your windows and doors, which will help keep heat inside.
  • Check The Radiators- Summer is the best time to check your radiators. You can get debris in your system, causing blockages. You want them working properly once the wintertime hits.
  • Lower The Thermostat- Did you know that if you lower the temperature on your thermostat, it can help with your utility bills? Our experts suggest putting it on a reasonable temperature, around 68 degrees, not only can you save on your utility bills while keeping your house comfortable.
  • Check your fireplace- You may see unexpected animals and other kids’ toys of different build-up debris in your fireplace. You will want to clean this out to ensure your fireplace is not a fire hazard.
